July 15, 2009
Well yesterday was our first conf. with Pres. Jayme and his wife and two of the FOUR assistents to the pres. Well what a change! As for right now we are still waiting for everything to really get working again. Everything is just stopped and we are just waiting for them to make the changes. They told us they wanted to close on zone here and make our two zones into one. However, they still haven´t done anything....
I got some great and bad news about Ramo Acre. It looks like Almerinda, the old lady I baptized is still going strong. Isnt that great! Also Paulo and Francinete are still going to church every week. Remember them? Paulo and Francinete got married and then Paulo didn't get baptized because he had problems . . . and only Pres. Monson will decide if he will get baptized. It looks like he is not giving up on the idea to be baptized. The bad news is that ... I think... that some of the members left the church. We´ll see. Yesterday, was fun though because I just sat with Elder Alvez and Elder Silva. The three of us together . . . is not a good thing. We just die laughing together. I am really hoping that I can come back to see them one day. They are going to live together in São Paulo and we all really want to go Acre together. Oh, I love the friends I have made in the mission. Not just with Brazilians but with all the others missionaries. It's just so fun to be with them. We baptized a little girl named Cristiane on Sunday. When we went to pick her up her mom said she wasn't going to go to church because she didn't have any clothes to wear. We knew it was lie . . . and somone had said something about the church and she just wasn't going to let her daughter be baptized. So we, being annoying missionaries wouldn't go down without a fight. We said "Well OK... we will go grab some clothes from another girl in the primary and then come back to get her." The mom lied again . . . "oh they can't wear other peoples clothes." We just got more annoying . . . "Then we will find some way to get new clothes for her." The mom just looked at us with a face that said "You´re so annoying!" We went to the church and I was just thinking "OK what are we going to do ... should we still fill the font? . . . of course we need to feel the font . . . she's going to be baptized!" Then we went to the primary and asked Sister Sofia to go to Cristianes house. Sister Sofia just happens to be a seamstress and an ex-nun! She left with Jennifer (the girl who found Cristiane to be baptized). When they got there they started to talk with the mom. It turns out that Cristianes Grandma was talking smack about the church. The grandma just happened to be a super Catholic! Only the Lord would have known which sister to send to talk with Cristianes mom . . . Sister Sofia . . . she used to be a NUN! Sofia talked with the grandma and cleared up all her false ideas of the church. Then Jennifer said "Cristiane, my mom made you a cake for your baptism." The mom started crying and realized how caring everyone in the church is. She let her daughter get baptized and also wants to be baptized. She just needs to get married. Yeah for the help of members!
